Sunday 3rd July
Commemoration Day for Tom Meates
Nolans Reserve
Our Mate Meatsy
Like to introduce Tom Meates, affectionally known as Meatsy to us.
Meatsy pulled on his boots for Manly Christian Brothers as an Under 10 in 1996.
For the next 7 years he turn up every week to play a level of footy that inspired all around him.
No he wasn’t the best forward, but what made him stand out was his passion to support his team mates and his club.
This passion and pride for our club runs through the blood of the Meates family as Chris his dad, Ann his mum & Michael his brother have always been there to support the club, no matter the job at hand.
In 2003, Meatsy linked up with our A-Grade squad. Not as a player in the starting line-up, but a much needed role that would have made Adam Sandler proud,
‘The Water-Boy’.
Meatsy took on this role with the same passion and pride, as if he was still playing the game. There were times in the season he was called upon to lace up the boots, as player numbers were low. You can imagine the spirit he brought onto the field!
Meatsy developed a bond with the A-Grade players, Coaches & Officials that remains intrenched in their memories today.
Our biggest regret is we cant personally introduce you to Meatsy as he was tragically killed in a car accident in 2015.
We all miss Meatsy, but know every time we feel a sprinkle of water from above he is reminding us, ‘The Water-Boy’ is still in action!
