Junior Rugby League – your average contact sport

Do you know a child desperately wanting to play rugby league but unable to do so due to parent misconception about the junior game? If so, this article may assist in getting that child onto a league field this season!

Mythbusting about junior rugby league: Parents’ burning questions answered.

Is your child underweight for their age group?

Kids come in all shapes and sizes. Some kids are able to play more confidently, and really shine, when they are matched with players their own size.

Based on weight and ability, there is an opportunity for kids to play down one age group, but to do so, they must obtain dispensation from NSW Rugby League.  NSWRL has set aside two dates so players wanting to play down an age group can be weighed before the season starts.

Night 1
Date: Tuesday 19th March
Venue: North Sydney Leagues Club
Time: 4pm – 6:30pm

Night 2
Date: Thursday 28th March
Venue: Narrabeen Academy of Sport – Rugby League Office
Time: 4pm – 6:30pm

Important: To play down an age group, weighing is necessary.  Weight dispensation guidelines were developed to allow a player who isn’t confident of being able to handle the physicality of their own age group to play down one age group. They are not designed for the gun player who happens to be small to play down an age and be a stand out.

If you have any queries about our Club or the season, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
